Job description

Quoted in full from SpaceXAI's job posting. Gavroche does not edit it.

SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today, SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of making life multiplanetary and expanding consciousness to the stars.

SpaceXSI is building Super Intelligence to understand the universe and help expand humanity’s knowledge and capabilities. We work across the full Super Intelligence stack: compute (Colossus supercomputers), models (Grok), and applications (Grok Bot, Grok Build, Grok Imagine, Grok Voice, and X). We're creating a powerful flywheel where more compute trains better models, better models power more useful products, and what we learn from people using those products shapes what we build next.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

As a Manager, Fiber at SpaceXAI's Memphis data center, you will lead and oversee all fiber optic infrastructure activities, driving the successful execution of large-scale installations, maintenance, and optimization projects. You’ll combine hands-on technical expertise with strong leadership to manage teams of technicians, ensure the highest standards of safety and quality, and maintain the ultra-reliable high-speed connectivity that powers SpaceXAI's AI training and operations. Working closely with Foremen, Project Managers, and Superintendents, you’ll play a critical role in building and sustaining the robust network backbone essential to accelerating human scientific discovery through AI.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of Lead Fiber Technicians and Fiber Technicians in all datacenter fiber optic installation, maintenance, and repair activities
  • Oversee all phases of fiber optic projects from planning and execution to testing, handover, and documentation
  • Ensure a safe, productive, high-quality, and compliant work environment for the entire fiber team
  • Develop and implement sensor indicators, inspection protocols, and preventive maintenance routines
  • Direct complex troubleshooting, repair, splicing, and installation of fiber optics systems
  • Manage the inspection, replacement, and optimization of fiber optic cables and infrastructure
  • Monitor signal strength, system performance, and resolve fiber optic problem areas proactively
  • Maintain accurate system records, documentation, as-built drawings, and design updates
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Superintendents, and other trades to coordinate cross-functional work
  • Provide technical guidance, training, performance feedback, and quality assurance across all fiber-related work

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2+ years of direct data center experience installing, certifying, and maintaining optical fiber in large-scale Tier 3 or 4 facilities
  • 1+ years of experience leading or supervising fiber optic teams in a commercial/data center environment
  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Certification in fiber optics and/or cable installation (FOA, BICSI, or equivalent)
  • Advanced expertise in fiber splicing, OTDR testing, and certification procedures
  • Strong leadership and people-management experience in fast-paced construction or data center environments
  • Deep technical knowledge of hyperscale data center networking, structured cabling, and fiber infrastructure
  • Experience in AI/HPC data centers or other mission-critical facilities
  • Proficiency with computers, fiber management software, and electronic testing systems
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work in tight quarters with necessary physical dexterity
  • Ability to lift up to 35lbs, unassisted
  • Comfortable working at elevated heights (up to 50 feet) with appropriate safety gear
  • Comfortable working in environments with high noise levels
  • Available to work evenings and weekends as needed; schedule flexibility is required
