You are:
A cloud and platform engineer who builds the reusable infrastructure, automation, and engineering foundations that product teams rely on. You enjoy making environments secure, repeatable, observable, reliable, and easier for developers to use. You may be developing your cloud/DevOps foundation or already be ready to independently own platform components, pipelines, environments, or reliability workstreams. As your experience grows, you may lead platform designs, define infrastructure and DevSecOps patterns, mentor engineers, shape reliability strategy, and influence cloud architecture and platform standards across teams or programs.
The work:
- Design, build, automate, and operate cloud infrastructure and platform capabilities across AWS, Azure, or comparable environments.
- Create and maintain infrastructure as code using Terraform, CloudFormation, Bicep, or comparable technologies.
- Build and improve CI/CD pipelines, developer workflows, deployment automation, environment provisioning, and release controls.
- Deploy and operate containerized workloads using Docker, Kubernetes, managed container platforms, or comparable technologies.
- Implement monitoring, logging, alerting, observability, resilience, backup/recovery, and reliability practices for cloud platforms and applications.
- Apply DevSecOps, identity/access, secrets management, network, configuration, patching, and security controls throughout platform engineering.
- Automate repetitive operational work using scripting and engineering tools and support incident troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
- Use AFS-approved AI-assisted engineering tools and workflows to accelerate automation, troubleshooting, documentation, code development, and platform analysis while validating outputs.
- Partner with product engineers, Quality Engineers, Enterprise Architects, security teams, delivery leaders, and client stakeholders.
- As your experience grows, lead complex platform initiatives, establish reusable patterns and standards, mentor engineers, and shape cloud/platform architecture and reliability practices.
Here's what you need:
- Professional experience in cloud engineering, DevOps, platform engineering, infrastructure engineering, SRE, or comparable work, or equivalent practical experience.
- Hands-on experience with AWS, Azure, GCP, or another major cloud platform.
- Experience with infrastructure as code such as Terraform, CloudFormation, Bicep, or a comparable technology.
- Experience with CI/CD, Git-based workflows, scripting/automation, and modern software delivery practices.
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, container platforms, or comparable workload orchestration technologies.
- Understanding of cloud networking, identity/access, observability, security, reliability, and operational troubleshooting.
- For candidates with deeper experience, demonstrated ability to lead complex platform initiatives, define standards, mentor others, and influence architecture and reliability decisions across teams.
Bonus points if you have:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience.
- Cloud certifications from AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, or comparable providers.
- Experience with Helm, Argo CD, GitOps, service mesh, policy as code, secrets management, or platform engineering products.
- Experience with SRE practices, SLIs/SLOs, incident management, capacity planning, FinOps, resilience engineering, or disaster recovery.
- Experience with federal cloud security, zero trust, FedRAMP-oriented environments, or regulated systems.
- Ability to collaborate with development and security teams and take increasing ownership of platform components or cloud workstreams.
- Previous federal consulting, government, or mission-oriented delivery experience.
Eligibility Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Ability to work with federal clients and comply with applicable AFS, client, security, and program requirements.
- Ability to work in a hybrid, remote, or client-site environment as program needs require.
