Technical Product Owner

Chicago, IL  |  Hybrid  |  Full-Time

Diversified Services Network, Inc. (DSN) is seeking a full-time Technical Product Owner to join our team in Chicago, IL. We offer a hybrid work model, full benefits, PTO, 401k, and more! If you're looking to grow your career within an extremely reputable, stable Fortune 100 company - let's talk!

Position Overview

The Technical Product Owner serves as the bridge between engineering, customers, and field support for an enterprise software product. This is a hands-on, technical product ownership role suited to a former developer who has grown into product leadership and can speak credibly with engineering teams while driving product value, quality, and adoption.

Key Responsibilities

•     Partner with product development engineers to track and communicate design, development, support, and maintenance issues and their solutions.

•     Identify, document, and report design, reliability, and maintenance problems and bugs; track resolution progress, follow escalation procedures (including issues involving other products or vendors), and keep customers informed.

•     Coordinate with field support specialists and customers to resolve problems and expand product usage.

•     Answer customer and field support questions, providing guidance on product integration and infrastructure issues.

•     Gather and consolidate feedback from customers and field staff; collect, document, and maintain functional requirements, and share insights on customer use, experiences, and non-traditional applications to shape the product vision.

•     Manage the full software change request process — capturing need, components affected, cost estimates, risk, resources, and status; defining responses for non-standard or unsupported requests; and contributing to request process flows and templates.

•     Design, critique, and oversee user acceptance testing plans and strategies, guiding end-users in defining test environments and acceptance criteria, including approaches aligned with legal or contractual agreements.

•     Build business cases that justify project time and resources, and collaborate with stakeholders, development, and testing teams to deliver business solutions.

•     Support major installations and customizations, and help enhance the sales process and expand sales opportunities.

•     Research new tools and techniques for monitoring product efficacy.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

•     Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of experience in software engineering and/or product ownership, including 6+ years in a Lead Product Owner role.

•     Prior hands-on software development experience before transitioning into product ownership.

•     Strong knowledge of AWS and API/web services.

•     Working knowledge of software engineering, including development methodologies and their phases and deliverables, software design practices, and integration across multiple platforms and systems.

•     Business analysis expertise — identifying business needs, evaluating the value of business functions and assets, and recommending solutions that deliver stakeholder value.

•     Extensive decision-making and critical-thinking ability, including objectively challenging assumptions, predicting the impact of options, and applying consultative, command, or consensus approaches as appropriate.

•     Deep understanding of the business side of a software product, including install base, current uses, advanced features, and future plans.

•     Familiarity with major user acceptance testing frameworks and their respective features and benefits.

•     Exceptional communication skills — communicates effectively upward, downward, and outward; adapts documents and presentations to the audience; balances empathy with assertiveness; and coaches others on their writing and presentations.

Preferred Qualifications

•     Agile certification.

•     Experience with Jira, Azure DevOps, and/or ServiceNow.
