A better question than “What do you do?”

Start with the life you want
Before choosing a title, write down what you want a typical week to feel like. Consider your energy, the people you enjoy working with, time for family and friends, and the kind of problems that keep you curious.
Choose your non-negotiables
Pick three things that matter most in your next role: flexibility, learning, stability, purpose, or something personal. Use them as a lens for comparing opportunities rather than chasing every attractive title.
Run a small experiment
Talk to someone in a role you are considering. Ask what an ordinary Tuesday looks like. A short conversation or a small side project can reveal more about fit than a polished job description.
Keep space for the rest of you
Your work can be a source of pride without being your whole identity. Make room for activities and relationships that matter even when a project goes badly.
