Job description

Quoted in full from Open House London's job posting. Gavroche does not edit it.

Situated in the heart of White City, The Broadcaster is a dynamic venue with four floors including a stunning rooftop terrace. As a contemporary pub and dining room, we're all about fresh, seasonal cooking, everything is made from scratch and we’re proud to work with some of the finest suppliers in the UK to deliver bold, delicious, and thoughtful dishes.

We’re looking for an experienced and ambitious Sous Chef to join our kitchen team.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who loves being in the kitchen, takes real pride in the food they send out, and knows how to bring the best out of the people around them.

Working closely with the Head Chef and Senior Sous Chef, you’ll play an important part in the day-to-day running of the kitchen; leading busy services, maintaining standards, developing the brigade and helping create a kitchen that is organised, positive and consistently delivers.

The Role

As Sous Chef, you’ll be a key presence in the kitchen. You’ll lead from the front, staying close to the food and the team while helping ensure every service runs smoothly.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Leading sections and supporting the pass during busy services.

  • Delivering consistently high standards of food, presentation and execution.

  • Supporting, coaching and developing junior chefs.

  • Keeping the brigade aligned on service, menus and events.

  • Creating a positive, professional and collaborative kitchen environment.

  • Working closely with the front-of-house team to deliver a great overall guest experience.

  • Taking additional ownership when senior kitchen leaders are away.

  • Helping manage stock, deliveries, portion control and waste.

  • Supporting food cost management and understanding the commercial side of the kitchen.

  • Contributing ideas to menu development, dish costing and kitchen improvements.

  • Maintaining excellent food hygiene, allergen, Health & Safety and cleaning standards.

About You

We’re looking for someone who combines strong cooking skills with the confidence to lead others.

You’ll be:

  • An experienced chef who is comfortable taking responsibility during service.

  • Passionate about quality ingredients and consistently great food.

  • Calm, organised and solutions-focused when things get busy.

  • A supportive leader who enjoys helping other chefs develop.

  • Commercially aware, with an understanding of food cost, stock and waste.

  • Confident communicating across both the kitchen and front-of-house teams.

  • Someone who takes ownership rather than waiting to be asked.

  • Ambitious and keen to continue developing your career.

Most importantly, you’ll be someone who enjoys being part of a strong brigade, contributing your own ideas and experience while working together to deliver something we’re proud of.

Why Join Us?
  • A friendly, energetic, and supportive kitchen team

  • Opportunities for development and career progression

  • Input into menus and regular tastings

  • Everything made fresh from scratch using quality seasonal produce

  • Hands-on, approachable ownership that understands kitchen life

  • Staff meals & refreshments during shifts

  • Group dining discounts across venues

  • Team incentives and celebrations

  • Stream access for early wage withdrawals

  • Extra holiday day for each year of service (up to 5 years)

  • Uniform provided and yours to keep after 6 months, including shoes
